CMG: Growing a Websites Traffic 2400%

Our client ran a small business blog that specialized in Business, Marketing, Sales and Technology related topics. 

They had been live and operational for a few years but were struggling to attract enough traffic to their site to generate significant revenue. They had a limited budget for marketing and were looking for ways to increase their online visibility.

Objective:

Our challenge was to increase the website traffic and increase keyword visibility (keywords that rank) in a 12-month period.

Actionable Items:

We implemented a comprehensive digital marketing strategy that included the following Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and basic Social Media Marketing (SMM) tactics:

  • We optimized the website’s content, including page titles, meta descriptions, and image alt tags, to target these keywords. 
  • We conducted a thorough keyword research and identified high-volume, low-competition keywords that our client could easily rank for and used advanced keyword clustering strategies in order to build topical authority. 
  • Our team also implemented link building strategies to acquire high-quality backlinks to the website.
  • The first 6 months we focused almost exclusively on content, then the second six months we continued with content and started aggressively building backlinks.
  • We leveraged the clients social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn) to increase brand awareness, circulate all of the new content and engage with our client’s target audience. We published regular posts and ran targeted social media campaigns to drive traffic to the website.

Results:

After implementing our digital marketing strategy, our client’s website traffic increased from ~500 visitors a month to ~12,000 visitors a month in 12 months. Their keyword visibility increased from ~100 to over 9,000 keywords. Here are some specific results:

  • Organic traffic increased by ~2400%
  • Keyword visibility increased by ~9000%

Back for the First Time:

This heavy content and aggressive backlinking strategy worked so well, we decided to implement it again.

Right around December, we started publishing content (~120 articles over the next 3 months). Here is the last 3 month versus the previous 3 month comparison:

The clicks are still low due to no link building so far, and pushing out a lot of fresh content very quickly, but the impressions have doubled and indexed keywords have gone from ~100 to over 1100.

Months 3-6 will undoubtedly increase impressions and keywords even more, but the real magic and validation will happen when we start aggressively building backlinks in months 6-12.

We will DEFINITELY post an update in Q2 and Q3.
